The year is quickly coming to a close. The jump from what now seems like Halloween to the end of the year comes so fast. Christmas decorations go up earlier and earlier. I for one, take it slow. I love watching the season change, the leaves fall, and the world slumber a little bit.

As we move into the latter  part of the year, I would encourage you to also take some time, absorb the smells, the sights, the darker  nights and the crispness of the days.

One of my favorite reads for this time of year is The Little Book of Hygge by Meik Wiking. It has completely reframed my thoughts about the fall and winter seasons. I love summer, but there is a beauty in this time of year and this read always reminds me of that.

It's hard to deny that Christmastime is in the air, and I've got cookies on the brain, as well as nighttime Christmas lights. So in a wonderful combination, I've  put together a little script that takes night sky light imagery and clips a Texas county shapefile (cookie cutter style) to create a data set that's much easier to work with.

Clipping image collections to shapefile with Google Earth Engine 🌌
One of the most challenging aspects of Google Earth Engine is managing the size of image collections. Remotely sensed images, by nature, are large. But what if you want to clip images so they are smaller and concentrated within a study area? To solve this problem I’ve put together a

A departure from our usual geospatial github repos, public APIs are very useful. Often, geospatail data isn't always neatly packed up in a shapefile or csv. Knowing how to access data from many sources is extreamly helpful. Some really neat APIs in this list are those that include location data for public transit, weather information, and Open Data portals.

The season is changing and with it the sun is setting early. As part of adjusting, I've been working on getting into "flow" during my work.  A big help with this has been the podcast  "Flowstate". A mix of spoken word and music designed for flow in half hour blocks. It's exactly what I need to focus and get things done this fall.

Since House of the Dragon has ended, my Sunday nights have been void of structure. In a quest to recapture Sunday, I've been catching up on Mytic Quest. As someone who grew up playing my share of MMORPs (I am fighting the urge to revive my Draenei Paladin), this show is a love letter to the weird world of game developers.
