Your Next Tileset Inspiration for Mapbox

Mapbox offers so many customization options it makes it hard not to get creative and find what you are looking for.

Mapbox offers flexibility to create tilesets, so the community has ran with it and generally I don't recommend running on tile anything.

According to the Mapbox developer docs:

Tilesets are the primary data format for Mapbox maps. Whether you start with your own custom data or you create a dataset first, converting your data into a tileset will allow you to add it to a Mapbox map and style it using the Mapbox Studio style editor.

So the question when developing a map becomes, do you invest the time and effort into styling your custom tileset or do you just use a default one?

I generally would say it depends on your situation. But Mapbox offers so many customization options it makes it hard not to get creative and find what you are looking for.

Custom Bathymetry

A great use of the new Mapbox Bathymetry Tileset and the instructions on how to create your own using MTS (Mapbox Tiling Service). Once created in MTS, you can then customize your own Tileset and even make it public if you want to share.

Satellite Imagery

In need of high res satellite images? Mapbox has you covered. Sure, it's a simple default feature, but few mapping applications have access to their own satellite images.

For British Eyes Only

An incredible Tileset came out of work on the footways project. Mapping the walkways of central London is now available to anyone who can access the tileset. The incredible detail and thought that went into this tileset is something you need to see even if you don't need it for your next project.

DIY Tilesets...Lite

Open Map Tiles offers custom styles developed with the Mapbox GL style requirements in mind. You can also edit them online using this fantastic online editor.
